Migraine all weekend...ARGHHHH!

I woke up Saturday morning with a horrible migraine and spent the rest of the weekend sleeping it off. Today it was just a headache, but I don't want to risk it getting worse by sitting in front of a computer screen for too long. I plan on reading for the rest of the night and will post all of my reads tomorrow night. Until then, Good Night and Good Reading!

Book Tube Read-A-Thon days 3 and 4.

Yesterday I had some computer issues late in the evening and was unable to post. Today I read all day and then had a Book Club meeting to go to tonight. I got home exhausted and do not think my post will be very eloquent, so I will post first thing tomorrow morning.

I have managed to keep up with the 300 page a day average and completed the Classic and Reread challenges.

I will give much more info tomorrow and until then, Good Night and Good Reading!

Book Tube Read-A-Thon Day 2

I got up really early this morning as I only read about twenty pages of my Classic and Reread Book, Hard Times by Charles Dickens, last night. I read about 100 pages and then went to work at the library (I am an on-call replacement Library Tech) for a few hours. I came home a little early feeling oogy and went to sleep. As I felt better I went to Pub Quiz Night at our local watering hole and spent way too much time chatting with my friends.

When I got home it was about nine and once I checked email, Facebook, and Twitter it was after ten. So, long story short, I did not get my reading done for today (bad me). I have about 75 pages left of Hard Times which I will finish in the morning and then be a reading fool again all day! I have now found out that the 300 page challenge is an average for the entire week and as I read over 400 pages yesterday and 200 today, I am still on track...whew!

I will post a review tomorrow for Hard Times and whatever else I manage to finish in the day. Until then...Good Night and Good Reading!

Book Tube Read-A-Thon Day 1

The BookTubeAThon has officially started and I am a reading fool! In addition to reading as much as you can from July 15, 2013 through July 21, 2013, there are also a few reading ‘challenges’.

1. Read at least 300 pages a day.

2. Read a Classic.

3. Reread a book.

4. Listen to an audio book.

5. Read a trilogy or finish a series.

6. Read a book over 500 pages.

7. Read a book that has been on your shelf forever.

I am also currently working on a Paranormal and Mythological challenge from a YA group in Goodreads, so you will probably be seeing quite a bit of YA and some Juvenile books in the next few weeks.

I began reading this morning at about 9 am and finished:

THE ANGEL FACTORY by Terence Blacker

Thomas Wisdom feels out of place in the world. His family is just too perfect. Then on a yearly journey to Santa Barbara he finds out the truth about what exactly his family is and how he fits into their plan.

I would like this YA novel to have gotten into the whole ‘angel’ part quite a bit sooner. Nothing is divulged until halfway into the story and I was beginning to think the title meant something other than ‘real’ angels. The writing is sharp and witty at times, but overall I never felt connected to any of the characters. While the premise was interesting, I felt quite disappointed when I finished as the conclusion was wrapped up in a little too tight a bow.

I’d give The Angel Factory 2.5 out of 4 stars.

MODERN FAIRIES, DWARVES, GOBLINS, AND OTHER NASTIES:
A Practical Guide by Miss Edythe McFate

This was a charming juvenile book written as a sort of guide to understanding the mythical creatures which (may) live around us. Beautifully illustrated, this guidebook’s goal is to teach the reader to be able to tell the difference between a good creature and a bad one. There are seven short, cautionary tales interspersed to illustrate what can happen when humans encounter the magical realm.

I found this book to be very entertaining and loved the way the stories brought out the characteristics, bad and good, of the creatures being described. Ms. McFate cleverly weaved mythological information in a way that a younger reader (8+) would find entertaining and not boring.

I’d give Modern Fairies, Dwarves, Goblins, and Other Nasties 3 out of 4 stars.
I managed to read over 400 pages today, so I met that challenge!

Well, that’s all for tonight. I am off to begin a new book. I think I will try the classic challenge next. Until tomorrow…Good Night and Good Reading!

Hello everyone, I am back!

I have been away from blogging for some time now and decided that since I am doing the Booktube Read-A-Thon this week I would start fresh. If you had been following me at my other pages at http://roseanns1kbookchallenge.blogspot.com/ or http://roseannthereadersotherbooks.blogspot.com/ please follow me here from now on. I will be setting up a separate blog for my 1001 book challenge in the next couple of weeks and will post the new URL here.

I completed my Master's in Library and Information Science from SJSU as of May 2013 and am now beginning the journey to find my first job as a librarian. If interesting things happen, I will post here to keep you advised of my progress.

Until tomorrow, good night and good reading!
